The Business Office Department at Pointe Coupee General Hospital consists of a team of seven individuals whose main goal is to ensure accurate and timely billing of patient's accounts. There are three highly trained and knowledgeable medical billers that bill insurance claims to ensure that all patient claims are being satisfied by their insurance carrier. There are numerous insurance companies that PCGH files claims with, however, the major groups are Medicare, Bayou Health Plan/Medicaid, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Humana, United Healthcare, Aetna, Worker's Compensation and several Medicare Advantage Plans.

Medical billing is a complex series of procedures that require a great deal of time and follow up by trained medical billing personnel. Medical billing is vital to PCGH; without payments from insurance companies a healthcare facility is unable to operate. The Business Office works closely with many clinical departments in an effort to generate and issue a patient's bill with accurate and precise information; otherwise the claim would be denied resulting in no payment. A very important part of our department's daily routine is communicating with patients who are having insurance issues, and this involves excessive follow up on many patient accounts.

The Business Office also handles all collection of funds for the entire hospital. All payments received either through the mail or through the cashier office are updated, balanced, and deposited by the Business Office.

PCGH offers a program for patients who are unable to obtain insurance. The program is referred to as Pointe Coupee Charity Care. The requirements are based on an individual's income being below the national poverty level, the patient must live in Pointe Coupee Parish, and the patient cannot have any type of insurance in order to qualify. Please feel free to visit the Business Office for future information on this program.

The Business Office staff are available Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM until 4:30 PM.

Currently the department treats over 1000 patients per month. A physician staffs the department 24 hours per day, 7 days a week. The Laboratory Department at Pointe Coupee General Hospital plays a major role in the detection, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases. The Laboratory helps to improve patient care by providing safe onsite testing for a variety of discipline, including blood bank, chemistry, coagulation, hematology, microbiology, parasitology, serology, and urinalysis.

The Pharmacy Department at Pointe Coupee General Hospital has a critical role in patient care and outcomes. The main focus of the Pharmacy Department is the procurement, dispensing, monitoring and tracking of medications. We supply medications to inpatients, outpatients, emergency room and same day surgery patients.

The Health Information Department is responsible for the security of the electronic and paper medical records. Health Information is also responsible for overseeing the timely processing, completeness, and when necessary, the retrieval of all patient medical records. Health Information has an eight member team, most of whom are cross trained with multiple certifications. Team Leaders Margaret “Maggie” Jarreau, RN, Health Information Manager,. and Dana Beauvais, MA, CCA, Assistant Manager, are very proud of the staff's accomplishments, dedication to service, and professionalism.

The Dietary Department is also responsible for planning, preparing, and serving a daily noon time meal to staff and visitors. The café menu includes a hot meal and a cold plate. It also includes a variety of salads, desserts, and beverages. The Dietary Department is licensed by the Department of Health and Hospitals and strictly adheres to all local and state food safety requirements.
