Department Spotlight: Dietary
The Dietary Department is responsible for screening, accessing, and providing individualized nutritional care to each patient. When a patient is admitted to Pointe Coupee General Hospital, the Certified Dietary Manager, Cathy Guerin, conducts a nutritional screen. If the screening results indicate a nutritional problem or the potential for a problem, then a Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist (LDN) is contacted. The LDN completes a comprehensive nutritional assessment based on laboratory data, the patient diagnosis(es), the patient's medications, and current treatment regimens. The LDN then recommends to the physician the estimated nutritional requirements needed by the patient to promote recovery from illness and insure proper healing.
The Dietary Department is also responsible for planning, preparing, and serving a daily noon time meal to staff and visitors. The café menu includes a hot meal and a cold plate. It also includes a variety of salads, desserts, and beverages. The Dietary Department is licensed by the Department of Health and Hospitals and strictly adheres to all local and state food safety requirements.
We applaud the PCGH Dietary Department for a job well done!
