Mighty Mike with Rep. Jeremy LaCombe — Improving Care in Our Communities
In this episode from the LHA’s Improving Care In Our Communities series, Rep. Jeremy S. LaCombe shares the story of Fr. Mike Schatzle and the compassionate care he received from healthcare professionals at Pointe Coupee General Hospital as he continues recovering from a severe stroke. “Thank you to all of the healthcare heroes at Pointe Coupee General Hospital for going above and beyond to help Fr. Mike and for all you do to improve lives in our rural area,” said Rep. Lacombe. “I’m glad to see that he’s returned to live in our rural community where so many people love him and support him.”
Before his retirement, Fr. Mike served as pastor at St. Mary of False River and St. George Catholic Church in Catholic Diocese of Baton Rouge. “We have a nickname for him, and it's called Mighty Mike because he’s strong in body, mind, and spirit,” said Carol Bonnecaze, a friend of Father Mike who helped to rescue him in his home during his stroke.
