New State of the Art Medical Laboratory Now Open
Pointe Coupee General Hospital continues its efforts to improve quality of care for local health care consumers, most recently opening a brand new 6,000 ft² (560 m²) state of the art lab.
PCGH Administrator Chad Olinde and Lab Manager Yvette Major Garrett announce that the new lab will provide 24 hour a day, 7 day a week lab services to meet the needs of the emergency room, as well as, patients admitted to the hospital.
The lab has three private phlebotomy rooms to ensure privacy and comfort for outpatient lab services.
Chad Olinde, CEO, spoke to community members prior to the new medical plaza’s ground-breaking ceremony on September 25, 2014.
Patients should continue to register for outpatient labs in the outpatient registration area located near the emergency room. Once registered, patients will remain in general waiting until the patient’s number is called; they can then proceed to the new lab by following the posted signage.
Anyone needing outpatient lab services including fasting lab work, monitoring of Coumadin levels and other routine labs are encouraged to use PCGH Lab services. The lab works with the latest state of the art equipment meeting the highest standards and is accredited through the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments or CLIA. The lab staff is able to draw labs, complete testing, and send results to patients’ physicians in the most timely and efficient manner possible.
The exterior of the lab has changed, but the friendly, familiar faces of staff members remain. Lab manager, Yvette Major-Garrett, MT, ASCP, has over 26 years experience in the PCGH lab. She assumed the role as manager in October 2013 following the retirement of Liz Gosserand, longtime employee of PCGH.
Garrett works closely with Mimi Guidroz, MT, ASCP, who has over 40 years experience as a PCGH lab employee to ensure quality and to continue to meet the highest standards possible.
Included in the staff of 25 employees are 12 phlebotomists, and 13 Medical Technologists and/or Medical Lab Technicians. The laboratory team also includes: Deandria Bergeron, Debra Bracey, Marci Cloughley, Felisha Elloie, Cherelle Gremillion, Taylor Gros, Shaleigh Hicks, Holly Jarreau, Caroline LaCour, Matt Lamkin, Shelley Leonard, Karen Livingston, Chasity McCurry, Nicole Pourciau, Chasity Prestenback, Angie Ramagos, Gretta Roberts, Sharell Swift, Rachel Temple, Candace Roy, Brittney Whitfield, Derwin Wyble, and Blair Rogers.
Garrett states, "My staff and I are excited to work in the new state of the art lab in order to service the local health care community and we will continue to work to ensure efficiency and accuracy in all of our outpatient lab services.”
The PCGH lab has serviced the community since the inception of the hospital in 1969. The current lab medical director is Dr. Ronald Padgett, Pathologist. Please call (225) 638-5735 for more information about PCGH lab services.
