Criteria for admission to skilled rehabilitation
The patient must have a hospital stay of at least 3 consecutive days within the past 30 days.
Skilled care services must be related to the same condition for which the patient was treated in the acute care hospital.
The patient has Medicare Part A and has days left in the benefit period available for use.
The physician has determined the need for skilled care.
The patient requires daily skilled services on an inpatient basis.
Once the patient meets skilled care criteria, Medicare will pay 100% for the first 20 days of service. In some instances, private insurance companies will negotiate for their patients to be cared for in a skilled rehabilitation program.
Patients can be transferred to the Pointe Coupee General Skilled Rehabilitation Program from other acute care hospitals or facilities.
What would be the benefits of receiving skilled rehabilitation at Pointe Coupee General Hospital?
The nurse/therapist to patient ratio is low which insures individualized comprehensive care for the patient. The advantage of being close to home with the accessibility of family and friends close by is also a positive benefit.
